Ken's Pictures of a Goldstone

On 7 May 2003, I picked up an interesting bit of polished stone in a shop. It's about 5cm wide and 3cm high, and it looks rather like a lump of caramel with tiny gold flecks embedded in it. The matrix appears to be translucent, so the flecks appear to be at different depths, but so far I haven't been able to confirm that it isn't an illusion. It's really quite striking; these photographs really don't do it justice. The first few are taken with the stone on a piece of black crêpe cloth, some with the flash and some with ambient light. The cloth shows up as the background in at least one of the shots.

All of these pictures were taken by myself, using a Nikon CoolPix 4500.
