| These are the pictures I took when I was at the NordU2002 conference in Helsinki, Finland in February of 2002. They are uncaptioned and in no particular order, but grouped by general topic.. |
All of these pictures were taken by myself, using a Nikon CoolPix 950. I was very impressed with the sea-ice in the cruise-ship harbour, so there are lots of pictures of that :-). (The Baltic is less salty than the Atlantic and so freezes more readily, but nevertheless..)
The pictures of Iceland were taken out the windows of the plane on the return trip -- sometimes with the grumpy permission of the people over whose seats I had to lean to get the shot.
The church is a very striking Russion Orthodox edifice on a hill near the harbour. The one odd photo of a round table was taken in the restaurant where the conference dinner was held, and the table is reflected in the glass ceiling. If you look closely near the bottom of the photo, you can see the church's out-of-focus spire on the other side of the glass -- the restaurant was nestled under one side of the church's hill, and the photos of the church proper were taken outside the restaurant's upstairs entrance.
